 Talks, Readings and Workshops

Isabel is an experienced and popular speaker, regularly running creative writing talks, readings and workshops with reader/writer groups.

Events have included Portsmouth BookFest, Havant Literary Festival, Chichester Writing Festival, Quay Arts, CMP Literary Festival and the recent Ilkley Literature Festival and Guildford Book Festival.  In 2011, Isabel was invited to join the judging panel for the West Dean Writer’s Retreat Competition.

In the following clip, Isabel Ashdown talks to Adrian Weston about the writing process and inspiration behind her debut novel Glasshopper:

School, College and University Visits

In her thirties, Isabel gave up her career to study for a BA and MA in Creative Writing, and her journey into publication is of particular interest and inspiration to those studying on creative writing courses.

While her own writing has a clear adult audience, she has also acquired a large readership in the young adult sector (15+), and this age group seems to respond well to her hands-on approach when it comes to workshops and discussion.

Radio and TV

Isabel has appeared on a number of shows to talk about her books and their themes, including BBC Radio 5′s Simon Mayo Book Club, BBC Radio Solent, BBC Radio Sussex, BBC Radio Surrey, Spirit FM and Portsmouth Live TV.

Features

From time to time Isabel is asked to contribute to newspapers and magazines on a variety of subjects ranging from creative writing and literature to alcoholism and relationships.

Amongst others, Isabel has featured in or written for the Guardian, the Mail on Sunday, Red Magazine and Essentials.  To see more press cuttings, click here.
