On 29th October, I’ll be visiting the BBC studios in Wood Lane to meet Simon Mayo and his team of reviewers, to hear their verdict on my debut novel, Glasshopper.
Also on the show is David Vann, with his debut novel, Legend of a Suicide, a wonderfully dark and tender collection of linked stories.
You can hear the show live at around 3:15pm on 909/693 am, or listen again for 7 days after the interview.
Afterwards I’ll be hotfooting it back south to read from and chat about Glasshopper at the Jubilee Library in Brighton. Books will be available for purchase on the evening.

The Journey through Adolescence
Friday, 25 September, 7.45pm, Nineveh
Three authors talk about the special challenges of writing for and about teenagers.
Isabel Ashdown’s debut novel Glasshopper won the Mail on Sunday Novel Competition. Featuring a fourteen year old boy in 1980s Portsmouth, it was described by the competition judges Fay Weldon and Sir John Mortimer as ‘magnificent’.
Alex Bell was only nineteen when her first novel, The Ninth Circle was accepted for publication. Her third book, Lex Trent Versus the Gods is about a teenage cat burglar and is published in September.
Yong Pease is a Gosport-based author whose new novel Touch My Heart is a sequel to Brown Jade, a semi-autobiographical account of a teenager in 1950s Malaya.
This year the Havant Literary Festival more than doubled in size, hosting an impressive array of top names from the writing world, such as Fay Weldon, Stella Duffy, Maggie Gee, Michael McCarthy, Claire Armitstead, Louis de Bernieres and the Antonius Players.

Charlie Crocker’s Book Club is an exciting forum for book lovers right across the BBC Solent broadcast region.
Every fortnight, Charlie gives listeners the chance to read and review new books, before inviting them to join her in interviewing the authors live on her show. And this fortnight Charlie’s book choices are The Stepmothers’ Support Group by Sam Baker, and Glasshopper by Isabel Ashdown.
